Choosing Colors, Text Labels, and Finishes
You've laid out your components and perhaps even added a custom background graphic. Now it's time for the final, crucial details—the finishing touches that elevate your design from a functional tool to a truly personal instrument.
This guide will walk you through choosing colors, adding clear text labels, and selecting the physical finishes for your components in the Yaeltex Factory.
The Foundation: Your Faceplate Color
The single biggest aesthetic choice is the background of your 2mm aluminum faceplate. This happens in the Appearance View of the Factory.
- Plain Color Background: For a clean, minimalist look, you can select any solid color for your faceplate. Our core brand palette often leans towards black, white, and various grays for a timeless aesthetic, but you have the freedom to choose any color that fits your style.
- Custom Graphic Background: If you choose to upload your own artwork, the colors within your image will define the look of your controller. (For more details on this, please see our guide: How to Add Custom Graphics & Logos to Your Faceplate).
Clarity and Personality: Adding Text Labels
Clear labeling is essential for a user-friendly controller, especially in a live performance setting. The Factory allows you to add custom text to any component.
- How to Add Labels: In the Appearance View, you can select individual components and add text.
- What to Label: This is your chance to make your workflow intuitive. Label your knobs "FILTER" or "REVERB," your faders "VOCALS" or "MASTER," and your buttons "KICK" or "SNARE."
- Customize Your Text: You can choose the color of your text to ensure it stands out clearly against your background design, creating a look that is both legible and aesthetically pleasing.
The Finishing Touches: Caps, Indicators, and Physical Colors
These small details have a big impact on the final look and feel of your controller.
Knob & Fader Caps
For your potentiometers, encoders, and faders, you can choose from our library of physical caps. Select from different styles and colors to complement your faceplate design and improve the ergonomics of your layout.
Arcade Button Colors
Our ultra-durable Arcade Button element (ARC-41) offers a unique level of physical customization. You can choose the color of the plastic button itself from a palette of 8 different options, allowing you to color-code your most important performance triggers.
Graphic Indicators
For knobs and encoders, you can design custom graphic indicators directly onto the faceplate. This is perfect for:
- Creating a "0 to 100" or "- to +" scale around a knob.
- Adding a single dot or line to mark the 12 o'clock position.
- Designing unique visual markers that match your overall aesthetic.
By thoughtfully combining your background color or graphic with clear text labels and carefully selected component finishes, you can create a professional, beautiful, and highly intuitive instrument that is unmistakably yours.
