How to Install the YURS Script in Ableton Live

To unlock the full power of your Yaeltex controller within Ableton Live, you need to install our custom remote script, YURS (Yaeltex Universal Remote Script). This script creates a deep, two-way communication link between your hardware and the software.

This guide provides a simple, step-by-step process for installing the YURS script correctly. The process involves placing a specific folder into Ableton Live's MIDI Remote Scripts directory.

Step 1: Download the YURS Folder

First, you need to get the script files.

  • Download the YURS .zip file from the official Yaeltex website or GitHub repository.
  • Unzip the file. Once downloaded, unzip the file. You should now have a folder named something like Yaeltex_Universal_Remote_Script. This is the folder we will be moving.

Step 2: Locate Ableton Live's MIDI Remote Scripts Folder

This is the most crucial step. You need to find the correct folder where Ableton Live stores its control surface scripts. The location is different for macOS and Windows.

On macOS:

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Go to your Applications folder.
  3. Find the Ableton Live application (e.g., Ableton Live X Suite.app).
  4. Right-click (or Ctrl-click) on the Ableton Live application icon and select "Show Package Contents".
  5. A new Finder window will open. Navigate to: Contents/App-Resources/MIDI Remote Scripts/

This is the destination folder.

On Windows:

The Ableton Live application folder is typically found at:

`C:\ProgramData\Ableton\Live [version]\Resources\MIDI Remote Scripts`

Important Note: The ProgramData folder is often hidden by default on Windows. To show it:

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Go to the View tab.
  3. Check the box for "Hidden items".

You should now be able to see and navigate to the ProgramData folder.

Step 3: Copy the YURS Folder

Now, simply copy the folder you unzipped in Step 1 into the destination folder you located in Step 2.

  • Drag and drop the entire Yaeltex_Universal_Remote_Script folder into the MIDI Remote Scripts folder.

Do not change the name of the folder or place it inside any other subfolders.

Step 4: Configure Ableton Live's Preferences

The final step is to tell Ableton Live to use the script you just installed.

  1. Close and re-open Ableton Live. This is essential for Live to recognize the new script folder.
  2. Go to Options > Preferences > Link / Tempo / MIDI.
  3. In the "Control Surface" section at the top, select an empty Control Surface slot.
  4. In the top dropdown menu for that slot, find and select "Yaeltex Universal Remote Script".
  5. In the "Input" and "Output" dropdowns directly below it, select your Yaeltex controller.
  6. Ensure that for your Yaeltex controller in the main MIDI Ports list below, the "Remote" switches are turned ON for both Input and Output.

Verification

That's it! The script is now installed and active. If everything was done correctly, you should now be able to control Ableton Live using the functions defined in the YURS MIDI Chart. For example, moving a knob you've configured for "Device Control" should now instantly control the parameters of the selected device in Live.

If the script does not appear in the Control Surface dropdown menu, the most likely cause is that the script folder was placed in the wrong directory. Please carefully re-check the file paths in Step 2.
